Re "Likely GOP Hopeful gets early donation" (Capitol & California, April 6):
I read about start of 2014 election Republican "campaign school". At the same time, noticed the rise of former Lt. Governor Abel Maldonado and his long-time supporter, Charles T. Munger, Jr., one of the "deep-and-dark pockets" of right-wing money that has poisoned California politics for the last few years.
These two engineered the "top two" primary system which destroyed California's primary election system turning it into a "second November" election which doubles candidates campaign expenses. The only folks who can afford this are the "outside dark money" of the ultra-right and those in already "safe seats" where there is no competition due to lopsided voter registration, Republican or Democrat.
Hopefully for California's voters Maldonado is basically a loser in recent elections and probably will be once again. As for Munger and others of his type, where is the Fair Campaign Practices Commission? Strangely silent.
