Re "Would rail cynics have nixed our federal highways?" (Editorials, April 5): The word is more accurately "skeptics" (i.e., those who question), rather than "cynics" (i.e., those who are contemptuous).
The editorial uses a cynical non sequitur to imply that those who use federal highways should embrace the proposed high speed rail. This is analogous to suggesting that those who use indoor plumbing should embrace the proposed twin tunnels around the Delta, in spite of its huge cost and questionable value.
