Choice hits grand slam in Cats' first victory

• Game highlights: Michael Choice hit a grand slam in the seventh inning, and Michael Taylor followed with his second homer of the season as the River Cats won for the first time this season, 8-4 over Las Vegas on Sunday at Raley Field.

• Performance of the game: Sonny Gray, the A's first-round pick in 2011, pitched six scoreless innings. The right-hander allowed two hits and struck out four.

• Keep an eye on: Newly acquired catcher Stephen Vogt was the Tampa Bay Rays' Minor League Player of the Year in 2011 and led the Advanced-A Florida State League with a .345 batting average in 2010. Sunday, he had a single, double and homer and threw out a runner trying to steal.

• Transaction: Pitcher Dan Otero cleared waivers and was returned by the A's to the River Cats.

• Today: River Cats RHP Bruce Billings (0-0, 0.00 ERA) vs. Tacoma Rainiers RHP D.J. Mitchell (0-0, 0.00), 7:05 p.m., Raley Field.
