Sacramento-area motorists continue to get a spring break on gas prices.

The average retail price of gas in the area fell 2.4 cents to $3.87 a gallon over the past week, according to national price tracker GasBuddy.com, which surveys 720 stations in the area.

Sacramento prices are now 28.9 cents lower than they were a year ago and 15.5 cents lower than a month ago.

Nationally, the average price of gas fell 4 cents over the past week to an average $3.58 a gallon – down 9.3 cents from last month and a drop of 32.8 cents from last year.

"Americans are spending $108 million less on gasoline every day than they were a year ago," said Patrick DeHaan, senior petroleum analyst for GasBuddy. "Prices in nearly all (U.S.) metropolitan statistical areas are lower today than a year ago."
