A bicyclist died Wednesday afternoon when he was struck by a Regional Transit light-rail train.

Folsom police spokesman Sgt. Jason Browning said the light-rail train had just left the station at Glenn Drive and Folsom Boulevard about 3:30 p.m., headed for Sacramento.

As it crossed Parkshore Drive at Folsom Boulevard, a bicyclist rode into its path and collided with the front of the train.

Browning said a preliminary investigation indicates the bicyclist, a male adult, was westbound on the south side of Parkshore, riding on the wrong side of the road against traffic. He said the man apparently ignored the crossing arms and bells warning of the approaching train and continued onto the tracks.

The man has not been identified pending notification of family.
