West Sacramento police are trying to determine how a truck tractor ran over a 36-year-old man Wednesday morning at a trucking company yard.

Police and California Highway Patrol officers responded to an industrial accident about 11 a.m. in the 3000 block of Evergreen Avenue.

When they arrived, officers found a semi-tractor that appeared to have crashed through a chain-link fence of the business. It had stopped at the side of Interstate 80, just west of the Harbor Boulevard entrance, said Lt. Tod Sockman, West Sacramento police spokesman.

The man was pinned under the tractor, which was still running. Sockman said the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man's name has not been released pending notification of family. Sockman said he was from Rancho Cordova.

The man was an employee of the trucking company and the tractor was assigned to him. Sockman said it was not unusual for someone to be in the trucking yard alone, and there were no witnesses to the incident.
