River Cats at a glance: Cats defeat Rainiers to avoid rare sweep

Game highlights: Conner Crumbliss hit a three-run homer, and Dan Straily struck out nine in six quality innings as the River Cats beat the Tacoma Rainiers 5-4 on Thursday night at Raley Field.

Sweep avoided: The River Cats have gone 45 consecutive regular-season series without being swept. The last time they were swept was in August 2011 at Iowa.

Walk man: River Cats outfielder Shane Peterson is on pace to walk 144 times this season. In eight games, he has eight bases on balls.

Hot and cold: Stephen Vogt is hitting .563 (9 for 16), Michael Taylor .371 (13 for 35), Jemile Weeks .353 (12 for 34) and Peterson .381 (8 for 21). Scott Moore is hitting .048 (1 for 21).

Today: River Cats RHP Justin Thomas (0-1, 3.38 ERA) vs. Reno RHP Charles Brewer (0-0, 1.50), 6:35 p.m., Aces Ballpark in Reno.
