Twin Rivers Unified school board member John Dexter will host a community forum at 6 p.m. Monday at Foothill High School, 5000 McCloud Drive, to discuss the district's goals and to assess its vision, mission and core beliefs.

Dexter said he's concerned that district test scores are among the lowest in the region.

"The community's voice is essential as we move forward," Dexter said. "When someone comes to a school board meeting, there's really no opportunity to engage in a meaningful exchange of ideas."

He said he plans to host at least three to four of the forums in the next few months. He will present the information he gathers to the school board.

Dexter said he decided to hold the community meetings after failing to get them scheduled through the school board. He said the board has been too caught up in matters like lawsuits, contentious debates and reorganization and hasn't focused on academics.

"There is a lot of internal stuff we have to cure, but the students can't wait for us to figure out what we have to do," he said. "We have to seize the moment."

Call Dexter at (916) 595-5519 for more information.
