Regional Digest: UC Davis golfer Runas ties for second

Defending co-medalist Demi Runas of UC Davis closed with a bogey-free 2-under-par 70 Sunday to tie for second in the PING/ASU Invitational in Tempe, Ariz., UCD reported.

Runas finished at 7-under 209, two shots behind medalist Emma Talley of Alabama, which won the team title.

The 16th-ranked Aggies placed 10th in the tournament, which included five top-10 squads.

Sac State rallies past New Mexico State

• Nathan Lukes hit a go-ahead bases-loaded triple in the seventh inning to lead Sacramento State over host New Mexico State 6-4 in a Western Athletic Conference baseball game, according to the Sac State athletics website.

Freshman Sutter McLoughlin (Rio Americano High School) pitched two perfect innings for the save for the Hornets (21-15, 7-5).

The Aggies fell to 19-17 and 5-7.

• UC Davis remained winless in Big West Conference play, losing to host Long Beach State 7-2, UCD reported.

The Aggies (11-22, 0-9) stranded 11 runners for the second time in the three-game series.

The Dirtbags (16-18, 6-3) never trailed in the series, outscoring UC Davis 22-8.

UCD loses pitchers' duel to Santa Barbara

Shelby Wisdom (Elk Grove High School) homered in the fourth inning as host UC Santa Barbara beat UC Davis 1-0 in a Big West softball game, UCD reported.

Justine Vela pitched a three-hitter for the Aggies (17-21, 4-7). But Alex Pingree threw a five-hit shutout for the Gauchos (25-16, 6-5).
