The public is being asked to help choose a winner in a water-conservation video contest for Sacramento-area high school students.
The contest, sponsored by The Sacramento Bee, the Regional Water Authority and area water providers, drew more than 100 entries. A panel of judges representing film, environmental and water groups then chose 10 finalists.
The public is being asked to vote for a "People's Choice" winner by viewing the 10 finalists online at: www.sacbee.com/mie. Votes must be cast by April 26.
The winner, to be announced May 5, will receive a cash prize of $250. A "Judges' Choice" winner will also be announced. All the finalists will be shown on the Jumbotron at Raley Field before a River Cats baseball game.
Entrants were asked to address this theme: "Check sprinkler systems every month for water-wasting problems and make repairs within 48 hours." Whitney High School in Rocklin swept the finalists with four selections, followed by Del Oro High School in Loomis with two.
