The nonprofit Downtown Sacramento Foundation has begun accepting applications for its inaugural retail business competition, "Calling All Dreamers."
Through May 24, applications will be accepted for entrepreneurs with a retail business idea looking to open a storefront. The field of applicants eventually will be trimmed to three to five finalists.
DSF said the winning entrepreneur will receive a prize package worth about $125,000, including free rent for up to a year at a downtown site, startup capital and business-support services.
Community businesses will provide services that include advertising, contractor build-out assistance, graphic design, strategic marketing support and legal/accounting services. Rules, eligibility and more information can be found at www.dreamerswelcome.org.
Established in 2011, DSF is a sister organization of the Downtown Sacramento Partnership.
