The Sacramento Zoo has been accredited once again by the Association of Zoos & Aquariums independent accrediting commission.
The Maryland-based association said the Sacramento Zoo went through a review to be sure it meets ever-rising standards for animal care, veterinary programs, conservation, education and safety.
The AZA requires zoos and aquariums to complete the accreditation procedure every five years to be members of the association.
The accreditation process includes a detailed application and an on-site inspection.
The Association of Zoos & Aquariums accredits only those zoos and aquariums that meet the highest standards, said AZA president Jim Maddy.
