Rudy's Hideaway, a popular steak and seafood destination in Rancho Cordova since 1972, is getting into the food truck business.

Steve Ryan, owner of the restaurant at 12303 Folsom Blvd., said he aims to have a gourmet food truck rolling by mid-May.

Ryan said he searched for a used food truck to purchase but ultimately opted to have a Texas-based company "build an entirely new custom commercial mobile kitchen. The company is in the final stages of making it California-compliant."

Ryan said the truck will serve traditional Rudy's Hideaway favorites, including lobster rolls, fish and chips, lobster bisque, clam chowder and calamari. He said he's also working on other dishes that will be "specific to the food truck."

The truck also will be available for private catering functions, Ryan said.

To mark the rollout, Rudy's Hideaway is holding a "Name the Food Truck" contest. Entries can be submitted via email – – through April 26. Entrants should include contact information in their submissions.

The winner will receive a $75 gift card, and the winning name will be painted on the new food truck.
