SAN JOSE Ryan Johansen scored the tiebreaking goal with 1:37 to go as the Columbus Blue Jackets prevented the Sharks from clinching a playoff spot with a 4-3 victory Sunday night.
The Sharks rallied from 3-1 down to tie the score on Joe Pavelski's power-play goal with 5:03 remaining, but Pavelski's turnover led to Johansen's goal.
"It was right there for us, obviously," Pavelski said. "It's tough. You never want to make a play like that at the end."
The Sharks need one point to clinch their ninth straight playoff berth. San Jose has three more games to clinch a berth, but the loss dealt a blow to the team's hopes to get home-ice advantage in the first round.
The Sharks fell two points behind fourth-place Los Angeles in the standings but remained one point ahead of sixth-place St. Louis. San Jose would lose the tiebreaker to both teams based on fewer regulation and overtime wins.
Ducks 3, Oilers 1 in Edmonton, Alberta Cam Fowler, Kyle Palmieri and Corey Perry scored to help put Anaheim on the verge of clinching the Pacific Division title.
The Ducks can seal it with another win over the Oilers in the rematch in Edmonton today.
The Oilers announced via Twitter that forward Ryan Nugent-Hopkins will miss the rest of the season because of a shoulder injury.
Bruins 3, Panthers 0 in Boston Jaromir Jagr scored his second goal as a member of the Bruins, and Boston ended a four-game winless streak.
