Bach to Rock, a chain of music schools for students of all ages, said Monday that it will open its first school in the West in Sacramento.

Bethesda, Md.-based B2R said it plans to open its Sacramento school in the coming winter. Officials said talks to finalize the school site are ongoing.

The local franchise group was identified as Purple Dragon 88 LLC.

B2R, which touts itself as "America's music school," oversees seven schools in Maryland, Virginia and New York. It will open an eighth school in Wayne, Pa., in July.

Schools typically employ about a dozen, but staffs can grow with increased enrollment. Schools typically instruct 200 to 500 students in a year.

"We are thrilled to expand Bach to Rock's presence to the West Coast, and we're confident Sacramento residents will love our variety of music programs," said Brian Gross, president of Bach to Rock. "With music and arts programs continuing to be cut due to diminishing school budgets, Bach to Rock helps meet the increased need for high-quality music education.

"We look forward to offering our fun, progressive curriculum to Sacramento families."

B2R programs include private instruction, weekly ensemble instruction, jam sessions and public concerts.

The curriculum focus includes an emphasis that students tend to be motivated by playing with their peers in bands and groups.

Bach to Rock also features professional-grade recording studios, voice instruction and lessons for special needs children.

Last year, Inc. magazine named Bach to Rock as one of the fastest growing private companies in America. That year, B2R said revenue increased by 11 percent as student enrollment reached an all-time high.

This year, Gross said, the company "focus will be on expanding our footprint to major metropolitan areas across the country that have thriving music and arts scenes, like New York City, Boston, Chicago and Atlanta.

"We are confident people there will embrace the teaching methodology and philosophy of Bach to Rock, which is learning to play music while having fun."
