Three-time defending champion UC Davis will take a 16-stroke lead into today's Big West Conference Women's Golf Championships in San Luis Obispo.

Demi Runas and Andrea Wong each shot second-round 73s on Monday to the lead the No. 16 Aggies, UC Davis reported.

The Aggies will be trying for their fourth conference title in six seasons of Big West membership.

Runas (145) and Wong (148) – first and second, respectively, individually – helped the Aggies (593) shoot a 304. Long Beach State (609) is second and UC Irvine (618) third.

All five UC Davis players are among the top 10. Defending champ Beverly Vatananugulkit (150) is tied for fourth.

• Kercia Brakel's career-low 71 in the second round couldn't keep the Sacramento State women from falling a spot to fourth place, nine strokes behind leader Portland State, at the Big Sky championship in Chandler, Ariz., Sac State reported on its athletics website. The event concludes today.
