The median asking price of small- and medium-size businesses for sale in the Sacramento area during this year's first quarter was $225,000, according to San Francisco-based BizBuySell.com.
That was up from $220,000 in the fourth quarter of 2012 but down slightly from $227,000 in last year's first quarter.
First-quarter 2013 calculations were based on 136 Sacramento-area businesses listed at BizBuySell.com.
The Sacramento statistics are based on listing data, not on actual completed business sales.
Listed businesses in the area had median revenue of $380,500 in the first quarter, down from $402,706 in last year's fourth quarter and $425,488 in the year-ago period.
Nationally, BizBuySell said 1,897 transactions closed in the first three months of this year, up significantly from 1,218 in the first quarter of 2012. The median sale price was $180,000, the highest since 2009.
Analysts cited an improving economy and an increase in sold businesses owned by baby boomers looking to retire and getting purchase prices more in line with expectations.
