A fire April 11 at a historic downtown Truckee building is being called suspicious by the Truckee Police Department, which is seeking the public's help during its investigation.

The early-morning fire caused significant damage to the rear of JStones Whitehouse Restaurant, a new business in the 1874 Victorian mansion known as the C.B. White House.

No one was in the building at the time and the Truckee Fire Department, with mutual aid from other local fire departments, was able to extinguish the blaze, which started on the outside of the building.

The fire is "considered suspicious in nature," Police Capt. Harwood Mitchell said Wednesday in a news release.

Anyone with information about the fire is asked to call Police Detective Arnie Lopez at (530) 550-2336.
