Re "Brown ready to rumble on education" (Page A1, April 25): It is heartbreaking to hear lawmakers and politicians argue over where money should go in order improve our educational system. I hate to say it, but it seems like we are living in a two-tier society. They want those on the top to stay on the top and those in the middle and bottom to go down lower.
Why can't the governor's opponents forget about maintaining the status quo and imagine what it would be like if one of their children had to attend a disadvantaged school? I agree with Gov. Jerry Brown when he said it is a civil rights issue. His education plan will allow equal treatment for children in unequal situations. I support Brown's education plan because our children's education is a cause worth fighting for.
