Sacramento area heat settles in for the weekend

A high pressure system over the West Coast will help retain fair skies and above normal temperatures through the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

After a near-normal high of 74 degrees in Sacramento on Thursday, temperatures are expected to ratchet up. The delta breeze, which did such a good job of cooling things off on Thursday, is on the wane.

By Sunday, daytime maximum temperatures are predicted to be 15 degrees higher than Thursday. And on Monday, Sacramento could crack the 90-degree mark again.

The 7-day forecast for the Sacramento region from the NWS:

Today: Sunny, with a high near 81. South wind 5 to 9 mph becoming west in the afternoon.

Tonight: Clear, with a low around 49. West southwest wind 6 to 8 mph becoming south southeast after midnight.

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 87. South southeast wind around 6 mph becoming west southwest in the morning.

Saturday night: Clear, with a low around 52. West wind around 6 mph becoming south in the evening.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 89. South wind 5 to 7 mph becoming northwest in the morning.

Sunday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 53.

Monday: Sunny, with a high near 90.

Monday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 51.

Tuesday: Sunny, with a high near 86.

Tuesday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 58.

Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 88.

Wednesday night: Clear, with a low around 56.

Thursday:Sunny, with a high near 90.
