This week's contest challenged readers to consider what was written on the fortune from Gov. Jerry Brown's cookie before returning to California.

It was a tough call, but here are three that made the cut.

Even if your submission didn't make it to the finals, you have a chance to determine the winner. Vote for your favorite cartoon caption by noon Friday.

The winner, which will be based on survey results and judging by The Bee's editorial board and cartoonist Steve Greenberg, will be revealed Sunday in California Forum. The winner will receive a signed color print of Greenberg's cartoon with the winning caption.

"Help! I am being forced to work in a nonunion, unregulated bakery."
– Debbie Courtney, Elverta

"Your recent efforts to promote trade with China will bring good fortune and prosperity. But first please pay tab for wonton soup."
– Carla Christian, Sacramento

"Well I'll be darned. It says, 'Made in U.S.A.'"
– Dick Tarble, Sacramento
