Jessica Rhodes of Sacramento moves into a yoga pose during a class titled "Hanuman Flow, Leap of Faith" led by Janet Stone and Girish Cruden at the California Spirit Festival held at the Masonic Temple in Sacramento on Sunday, April 28, 2013.
The three-day festival which ended Sunday brought together more than twenty northern California yoga studios that offered a weekend of yoga, music, dance, food, and community. Festival organizers say the first-of-it's-kind event is a celebration of the spiritual and holistic growth in the Central Valley.
"The level of support and excitement from all the yoga studios and teachers has been
overwhelming," says co-founder Tyler Langdale of Yoga Shala in Sacramento. "To see so many different studios, businesses and teachers come together to celebrate as one community is a powerful example of how yoga transcends the barriers we often experience in life."
In addition to yoga classes the three-day festival featured, workshops and discussions led by some of the regions spiritual leaders. Yoga class styles held included a wide variety of lineages and will accompanied by live music performed by local talents DJ Nate Spross and WAHE and world-renowned yoga musicians including MC Yogi, Steve Gold and Girish.
