Regional Digest: Sac State's Soto, McLoughlin honored in baseball

Sacramento State baseball players Will Soto and Sutter McLoughlin were named the Western Athletic Conference Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, the school announced Monday.

A junior third baseman from Elk Grove High School, Soto hit .412 with a conference-high 13 RBIs for the Hornets, who were 4-1 last week.

A freshman relief pitcher from Rio Americano, McLoughlin earned three saves, allowing one hit, and set the school's season saves mark with his 12th.

UCD third in golf tourney

• UC Davis' Jonnny Baxter shot a 3-under-par 69 in the second round of the Big West Conference golf finals in San Jacinto, UCD reported. The Aggies (592) are third behind leader Pacific (587) entering today's final round. Baxter is tied for fourth.

• Sac State's Jordan Weir (Oak Ridge) shot a par 72 for the seventh-place Hornets in the first round of the American Sky Conference tournament in San Antonio, Sac State reported. Weir is tied for sixth.
