The Sacramento area's first 24-hour online giving drive for arts groups raised more than $400,000.
The online Day of Giving raised $411,907, according to Arts Day of Giving website. A total of 3,460 gifts were received.
In exchange for donations, donors got discounts from 27 different restaurants and businesses.
The Arts Day of Giving ran from 4:29 Monday to 4:29 a.m. today. It allowed donors to choose from 78 arts and cultural organizations in four counties: Sacramento, Placer, Yolo and El Dorado.
The goal was to shore up budgets of arts groups after some tough economic years. Less governmental funding in recent years has meant more competition among arts groups for donated dollars.
Next year, organizers plan to open the 24-hour online challenge to nonprofits of all stripes.
