The Bee posse's weekly update of the latest in area conditions, bargains, etc.

Course – What you need to know

Ancil Hoffman – Greens lush but average speed and smoothness; grass range always a bonus

Bodega Harbour – Out-of-town special report: Greens, diseased in winter, almost fully recovered

Catta Verdera – Fairways nice and rolling out; greens about 90 percent post-April 1-2 punching

Mather – Big positive step forward for greens in past week; fairways wide, rough penal

Morgan Creek – Clumpy rough results in some tough lies; greens relatively slow; fairways good

Whitney Oaks – As tough as ever – it's the odd case where more rough might keep some balls from hazard/OB and make course more enjoyable for higher-indexed players; greens fine; fairways iffy in places

Wildhorse – Fairways super; greens multicolored but roll true; scruffy bunkers the weak link

Aerified this week: Winchester
