Andrew Ayers' grand slam fueled a five-run third and helped visiting Sacramento State defeat Nevada 7-6 in a nonconference baseball game Tuesday in Reno.

The win was the third in a row for the Hornets (27-18) and their fifth victory in six games, the school reported on its athletics website.

Former Jesuit High School standouts Rhys Hoskins (single) and Justin Higley (bases-loaded walk) also contributed to the rally that erased a 3-2 deficit to the Wolf Pack (22-22). Hoskins finished with three hits, Higley two.

Former Rosemont standout Brandon Creel (6-3) picked up the win in relief. Sutter McLoughlin (Rio Americano) earned his 13th save.

• UC Davis broke an 8-8 tie in the eighth inning with a three-run rally on the way to an 11-9 win over visiting Santa Clara (10-32) in a nonleague game. Cameron Olson (River Valley) had three hits for the Aggies (16-26), UCD reported on its athletics website. McClatchy's Max Cordy (5-5) won in relief.
