Re "Active NBA player says he's gay" (Page A1, April 30): People are dying in a pointless war every day, yet an openly gay player makes front-page headlines. I respect Jason Collins for coming out, and making it easier for players who might be ashamed.
However in this day and age, why is one's sexuality of such importance? What relevance does this have to the game of basketball, and the NBA? Why is it so much more expected and accepted in the WNBA than the NBA? Ive never heard of a female athlete coming out and making headlines. So why is it so shocking when a male does it? They are people just like everyone else, arent they?
