Sacramento City Councilman Kevin McCarty will run again for the Assembly in 2014, four years after losing a close race for a legislative seat.
McCarty, a Democrat, seeks to replace Assemblyman Roger Dickinson, who has formed a campaign committee to run for the state Senate when President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg is termed out next year.
McCarty, in 2010, narrowly lost to Dickinson in the Democratic primary for the Assembly seat representing much of the city of Sacramento. McCarty's council term does not expire until 2016, so he need not resign from his current position to run for the Assembly.
West Sacramento Councilman Mark Johannessen, an attorney and certified public accountant, also has announced plans to run in the primary for Dickinson's seat.
