Vox Musica

Worth hearing again

What: The innovative Vox Musica presents a concert of favorite bedtime stories that will be illuminated with projected illustrations and puppets. One of the company's members will celebrate the release of an illustrated storybook. Children are encouraged to attend.

Political satire

Ripping fun ripped from the headlines

What: Expect clever phrasing and lyrics, sight gags and skits – all with a nonpartisan barb of humor – when the Capitol Steps comedy troupe pulls into town. The parody is sponsored by the Humor Times to mark its 22nd anniversary.

Comedy, music and customized cars

Sacramento Cinco de Mayo Festival

What: Celebrate the day Mexican forces triumphed over French foes with performances from the Latin Stars of Comedy, including comedians Paul Rodriguez, Carlos Mencia and others. The Latin All-Star Band, featuring musicians from Santana, Tower of Power, Tierra and more will also share the stage. Special musical guest is percussionist extraordinaire and East Bay native Sheila E. Before the show, check out the lowrider cars on display in the parking lot.

When: Doors open at 5 p.m. Sunday

Combo showcase

Jazz it up on a school night

What: Hear original tunes along with jazz standards by the American River College Jazz Collective and several jazz combos, directed by Dr. Dyne Eifertsen.
