SUSANVILLE – A wrongful termination lawsuit filed against Lassen County by former county Administrative Officer Tom Stone has been postponed to June 17.

Stone requested the delay at an April 30 hearing to allow him time to find an attorney to replace Treva Hearne of Reno, who retired suddenly, citing medical reasons, according to Lassen Superior Court records.

Stone, who served as the county's administrative officer for seven months ending in July 2011, claims the supervisors fired him because he protested the county's violation of state and federal laws regarding the use of designated federal funds.

His other claims include slander and violations of due process and his First Amendment rights to religious freedom. Stone also claims that he was induced to take the job under false pretenses.

Stone named as defendants the three supervisors who voted to fire him: Jim Chapman, Jack Hanson and Bob Pyle, all current supervisors.

The county has challenged all of Stone's claims in a demurrer filed in March.
