Applause: Folsom's student musicians hit high note in Monterey

Kudos to: Rebuilding Together Sacramento

Accomplishment: Mobilized more than 400 volunteers on April 27 to repair six homes belonging to veterans, seniors and people with disabilities as one of two annual Rebuilding Dreams events.

Details: Skilled and unskilled volunteers painted, landscaped, installed fences and appliances, put on new roofs and other tasks. Grant support came from Wells Fargo and Home Depot.

Kudos to: Folsom High School Jazz Band I and Jazz Choir I

Accomplishment: Musicians and singers wowed them at the Next Generation Jazz Festival in Monterey

Details: The jazz band got first place in the high school big band division and the jazz choir placed second in the vocal division. As top winners, both groups will perform in the 56th annual Monterey Jazz Festival in September. They perform at 7 p.m. Thursday at the high school's Jill Solberg theater, 1655 Iron Point Road, Folsom.

Kudos to: Family of murder victim Alice Murphy

Accomplishment: Presented check to Folsom Police K-9 Association

Details: Alice Murphy was killed Dec. 21, 2009, in her Folsom home. Her killer was given a life sentence without parole. Murphy's family usually gives gift baskets or flowers to the Police Department on her birthday to thank it for its hard work. This year they raised $2,500 for police dogs.
