Re "Gifts, fine dining on 5-day D.C. trip" (The Public Eye, May 5): I was impressed by the unbiased approach of Brad Branan. Our supervisors were well within their rights and duties as our representatives to travel to Washington D.C. to wine and dine with the representatives of private and governmental entities to establish rapport and contacts with those who can be of help to our community.

We are extremely fortunate to have board members and city counsel members who have performed their jobs in a superior manner without scandal or misdeeds. We need only read The Bee to discover that this is not the case with many elected boards and board members throughout the state.

I am proud to reside in Sacramento.
