Only a dozen miles or so made a difference on Monday when it came to rainfall as thunderstorms skirted some rain gauges and filled others.
The late-afternoon, early evening thunderstorms rolled through the Sacramento region, dropping more than an inch in at least one location. Others spots barely got enough to register precipitation.
At the official Sacramento "downtown" rain gauge near Sacramento State a total of .42 of an inch was recorded on Monday. However, a rain gauge along Arcade Creek and Winding Way near American River College got only .08 of an inch.
The hit-or-miss nature of thunderstorms was also illustrated in the Folsom area. Out at Folsom Point on Folsom Lake about .25 of an inch was registered. But in the rolling foothills south of Highway 50, along Prairie City Road, a whopping 1.26 inches fell.
There could be some thundering rain again today in the Sacramento region.
"We still might see some isolated thunderstorms throughout the afternoon hours, and maybe into the evening," said Stefanie Henry, forecaster with the National Weather Service. "But it looks like by the evening a lot of the threat will be gone."
