Re "Payments are an outrage" (Letters, May 6): We too have been deemed part of the state responsibility area. Because of this designation, we were denied homeowners insurance. We live on a court where everyone has anywhere from six to 10 acres of irrigated land. We live one mile from a fire station and have a fire hydrant at the tip of our land. We also are on a paved road. Yet we are designated as being in a brush and forest fire hazard zone because our address is Murphys.
This designation gave the insurance companies the fodder for cancelling insurance or raising premiums. I understand that California needs money. But the whole state should be paying this fee, not just certain areas. People from all over California and world visit these areas and enjoy the recreation.
