A mystery donor is stepping forward to help rebuild the fire-ravaged McKinley Park playground.

The identity of the person or company pledging to donate $50,000 to the Rebuild McKinley fund is scheduled to be revealed this morning at a news conference.

Already, $200,000 has been raised from fundraising events and through the generosity of businesses, civic groups and individuals. That cash will supplement insurance proceeds and city park funds.

In addition, about $400,000 in volunteer labor is expected June 4 through June 9, when the rebuild of the playground at 601 Alhambra Blvd. takes place. Additional donations of cash, equipment and material are valued at $200,000.

The donations will help rebuild the entire playground, which was badly damaged by an arson fire last July.
