Regional Digest: Morgan pitches Sac State to win

Zach Morgan pitched 8 1/3 solid innings as Sacramento State beat host Pacific 3-1 Tuesday night, according to the Sac State athletics website.

Morgan (6-2) allowed one run and eight hits. The Tigers (13-34) scored in the ninth and had runners on first and second with one out. But Sutter McLoughlin recorded a strikeout and flyout for his 17th save.

The Hornets (33-20) scored in the second inning on Will Soto's sacrifice fly and added two runs in the fifth on doubles by Dane Fujinaka and Kyle Moses.

• Nick Lynch went 5 for 5 with two RBIs as UC Davis outslugged host Saint Mary's 16-12, according to the UCD athletics website.

The Aggies (19-31) had 22 hits, and the Gaels (21-31) had 19 hits.

Big West honors 2 UCD softball players

UC Davis sophomore pitcher Justine Vela made the All-Big West Conference first team for the second consecutive season, the school reported. She went 15-10 with a 2.03 ERA and 175 strikeouts in 172 2/3 innings.

Freshman shortstop Christa Castello, who hit a team-high .308, made the second team.
