Sacramento police have arrested a man in connection with a rash of midtown business burglaries - including three break-ins at a long-established art gallery.
Gregory Musso Knecht, 43, (pictured) was arrested on suspicion of burglary after detectives armed with a warrant on Tuesday searched his residence in the 1500 block of J Street. Property stolen during several recent burglaries was found at Knecht's residence, police said.
Police have tied Knecht to four business burglaries between May 4 and May 10. Three of the burglaries occurred last week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at the Barton Gallery, 1723 I St.
The owner of the gallery, Lauren Barton, told The Bee earlier this week that she has closed the gallery due to the burglaries in which an estimated $10,000 in artwork was stolen.
Barton is hopeful that some of the stolen artwork will be among the items recovered.
Barton lauded the police and neighbors of the gallery for the efforts in catching the suspected burglar.
"The police and neighbors were absolutely outstanding, which verified to us that midtown is a really nice, tight community," said Barton.
The fourth burglary occurred May 4 in the 1800 block of J Street. Detectives believe Knecht might be responsible for other burglaries in the area, according to a press release.
