Sacramento-area officials with the Edmonton, Alberta, Canada-based professional services and design consultant company Stantec Inc. will be part of a massive flood-control project in New Orleans.
Besides involvement from Stantec officials in the region, Rocklin-based Stantec principal Mark Smith will serve as design manager for the $614.8 million pump station project.
Stantec was selected as lead design engineer and architect for a joint-venture design/ build contract with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District.
Stantec will provide numerous services for the three "permanent canal closures and pumps" facilities to be built near Lake Pontchartrain and in New Orleans.
The Corps said construction is expected to begin this fall, with completion expected within 44 months.
