Some showers hit Sacramento region but won't last long

A weather system moving into Northern California started this morning with the first wave of cloudy weather delivering a few showers to the Sacramento Valley.

Some Sacramentans awoke to sprinkles on the windshields of the vehicles this morning, the beginning of an approaching low pressure system. Precipitation is expected to be light and temperatures cooler.

The spring showers won't last long. Friday's weather is expected to be mostly sunny in Sacramento, according to the National Weather Service.

And on the weekend, a warm-up continues, producing temperatures in the low 90s again by Monday.

At least 6 confirmed dead in Texas tornadoes.

The detailed, 7-day forecast from the NWS for the Sacramento region:

Today: A 40 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 73. South wind 6 to 8 mph. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Tonight:A 20 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 52. South southwest wind 7 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 76. South wind around 8 mph becoming west southwest in the afternoon.

Friday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 49. South wind around 7 mph.

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 82. South southeast wind 5 to 7 mph becoming northwest in the morning.

Saturday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 54.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 86.

Sunday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 56.

Monday: Sunny, with a high near 91.

Monday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 55.

Tuesday: Sunny, with a high near 85.

Tuesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 50.

Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 78.
