Sacramento Bee readers share their gardening adventures.

The race is on for the first home-grown tomatoes of 2013.

On the Bee Garden's Facebook page, Kip Stack of Sacramento showed off his fast-growing tomatoes – and used an April 27 Home & Garden section as proof of when they reached their height.

"We picked up some quart-size Early Girls about three weeks ago," Stack said. "The plants are about 3 feet tall now. This one has nine tomatoes and a ton of blossoms.

"If the weather stays warm, we might have BLTs by mid-June," Stack added.

Stack's secret? Fertilizer.

"It's gotta be the bat guano," Stack said.
