Golfers Tyler Raber of UC Davis and Jordan Weir of Sacramento State are each in position to make a run at a berth in the NCAA Championships.
Raber shot a 1-under-par 71 Friday at the NCAA Pullman Regional in Washington and is tied for eighth place at 6-under 138, 12 shots off the lead, according to UCD's website. Weir shot a 73 and is tied for 12th at 139, according to Sac State's website. The final round is today.
The top five teams advance to the NCAAs, along with the highest-finishing player not on those teams. All of the players ahead of Raber are on teams in the top five.
Cal leads the team competition at 35-under 541. USC is 11 shots back and Saint Mary's is 16 shots behind. USC's Sam Smith is the individual leader at 18 under.
Mexican team completes Sacramento Soccer Day bill
Dorados de Sinaloa, a professional soccer team based in Mexico, will play Norwich City of the English Premier League in the featured friendly during Sacramento Soccer Day at Raley Field on July 18, Sac Pro Soccer announced.
Dorados is led by Cuauhtemoc Blanco, the only Mexican player to win an award in a major international FIFA competition the Silver Ball and the Silver Shoe awards in the 1999 Confederations Cup. He also has been the MVP of the Mexican First League Division five times.
During the daylong event, Sac Pro Soccer also will announce the name, colors, shield and scarf for the team that will join the United Soccer Leagues for the 2014 season.
Tickets, $18 to $35, can be purchased beginning May 28 through Ticketmaster or at the Raley Field box office.

Hornets can't overcome 3-run first-inning blast
Matt Shortall hit a three-run home run in the first inning, and four Texas-Arlington pitchers made it stand up as the Mavericks beat host Sac State 3-2, according to the Hornets' website.
Scotty Burcham had two hits for the Hornets (33-22, 14-12 Western Athletic Conference). Zach Thompson worked six innings for the win for the Mavericks (29-25, 17-9).
The regular season ends today as the teams face off at 1 p.m. at John Smith Field. The WAC tournament is next week in Grand Prairie, Texas.
