A group of 225 bicycle riders and crew raised $330,000 for 11 AIDS research and related groups during a four-day trip in Northern California.
Spokeswoman Bonnie Osborn said the cycling event was the only AIDS fundraising event of this year as two other events, Oscar night and the Capitol AIDS Walk, weren't held.
Money raised from the cycle event will help HIV-positive youths, provide food and dental care, and support an array of organizations in Northern California including: CARES Clinic Dental Program, Golden Rule Services, SANE, Breaking Barriers, Harm Reduction Services, River City Food Bank, Sierra Foothills AIDS Foundation, Caring Choices, Shasta Trinity Tehama HIV Food Bank, Sunburst Projects, and the Sacramento Gay and Lesbian Center.
Osborn said the $330,000 bested last year's $304,000 raised. She said $7 of every $10 raised goes directly to the 11 groups, with the remainder used to help the riders defray costs for the four-day event.
She said 125 cyclists, assisted by 75 crew members, traversed 330 miles Thursday through Sunday morning.
