A burst water line was discovered on the grounds of the Rio Cosumnes Correctional Center in Elk Grove on Saturday, affecting a few hundred inmates being held in some of the facility's housing units.
"The problem is being worked on, and we hope to have it fixed by Monday," said Sacramento County Sheriff's Department spokesman Sgt. Jason Ramos. "It's been more of an inconvenience than a hardship."
Portable toilets and clean drinking water "were brought in to the units that have been affected," Ramos said.
Other housing units were not affected, so "the inmates will have access to showers (in them) as well," Ramos said.
