Regional Digest: Granite Bay, Whitney to host boys volleyball quarterfinals

Granite Bay and Whitney will host quarterfinal matches tonight in the first CIF Northern California Regionals boys volleyball playoffs.

Sac-Joaquin Section champion and No. 4 seed Granite Bay (22-11) will play No. 5 Amador Valley of Pleasanton (27-8), the North Coast Section runner-up, at 7 p.m. in Division I.

Section champion and No. 2 seed Whitney (30-3) will play No. 7 Washington of Fremont (17-18), the NCS runner-up, at 7 p.m. in D-II.

Sac-Joaquin Section D-I runner-up and No. 7 Nevada Union (19-7) will play at NCS champion and No. 2 Deer Valley of Antioch (40-1). D-II section runner-up and No. 6 Vista del Lago (24-10) will face Central Coast Section champion and No. 6 Mt. Madonna (30-8) in Watsonville.

The semifinals will be played Thursday at home sites, with the finals set for Saturday at Dublin High School in Dublin.

Ponderosa golfer advances

Ponderosa's Corey Pereira shot a 2-under-par 70 Monday to finish third among 89 players in the CIF Northern California Boys Golf Championship at Diablo Grande in Patterson. Pereira advances to the state championship on June 5 at Quail Lodge in Carmel.

Jesuit finished fourth, Del Oro seventh and Oak Ridge 10th among 12 teams. The top three teams – De La Salle of Concord, Archbishop Mitty of San Jose and Robert Louis Stevenson of Pebble Beach – advanced.
