Re "Liberty Freedom Tea People PAC" (Editorial cartoon, May 21: Cartoonist Matt Bors clearly characterizes the so-called IRS scandal.
Tea party and similar groups have been proudly active in politics. They challenge Republican incumbents with their own candidates, endorse others and promote their political ideology. They reek of politics, yet they want the tax-exempt status of "social welfare" nonprofits.
Given their history, the IRS was obligated to look more closely at their applications. Had it not, it would have been derelict in their duties.
Of course, conservatives are claiming to be victims, again. It's getting old!
America's real victims are those affected by an economic system gone awry -- 7.5 percent unemployment, poverty levels increasing, wages stagnant, offshoring, millions without health care. The list goes on. And these economic victims are conservative, liberal, and independent. So let's do something to help America's real victims, and not those who would subvert the political process
