Re "A rally fit for the Kings" (Page A1, May 24): The Kings rally at Cesar Chavez Plaza was a missed opportunity for the City of Sacramento.
The rally attracted thousands of devoted Kings fans who will pay a lot of money to attend Kings games at a new downtown arena. The city should have used the rally to solicit contributions from these fans (along with Vivek Ranadive's ownership group, politicos, media, business people, etc.) to help pay the cost of building the new arena.
The Kings' mascot, Slamson, in addition to high-fiving fans at the line to get into the park, could have walked around with a sign and a bucket to collect contributions towards the $458 million building. Donations of this nature would go a little way in ensuring that the users of the arena pay for the arena. #HereWeStay should also mean #HereWePay.
