The National Weather Service is warning hikers and campers to be prepared for cooler, wet weather on Memorial Day, and showers may continue in the mountains through Thursday.
According to the service's special weather forecast, it cautions that conditions "may be quite wet at times, especially in the northern Sierra Nevada."
It calls for temperatures as much as 16 degrees below normal on Memorial Day, gradually warming to normal weather on Thursday.
In all, the National Weather Service says the low pressure system moving over the area will bring "cool and unsettled weather to the interior of Northern California on Memorial Day."
Sacramento Valley temperatures are expected to be in the 70s Sunday. A stronger system is moving in Sunday night and Monday and is likely to produce some rain in the region, the weather service says.

Memorial Day: 40 percent chance of rain after noon. High of 74. Precipitation is less than a tenth of an inch.
Monday night: 50 percent chance of rain.
Tuesday: 20 percent chance of showers before noon. High of 77.
Wednesday: Mostly sunny with a high of 78.
Thursday: Mostly sunny, with high of 84.
Friday: Sunny with a high of 87.
Saturday: Sunny with a high of 88.
