Places to go, things to do

With the summer season upon us, travel plans are being made and executed. The following gallery provides stories about and links to schedules and venues for music, theater, recreation, dining and other varieties of fun.

    Concerts/Music festivals
Sacramento will see its share of live music in the next few months, but outdoor festivals and other gigs are a great excuse to sneak out of town. Read the story and see the schedule.

    Outdoor theater

Summer brings a more relaxed vibe to the theater experience by taking it outdoors. Most theater companies and venues listed below encourage patrons to arrive early, and to bring food and refreshments. And remember to pack a few layers of clothing because whether you're seeing Shakespeare up in Ashland, Ore., Lake Tahoe (pictured) or even in Land Park, shows can cool off when the sun goes down. See other shows scheduled in our Outdoor theater list.
