Get ready for triple-digit heat.
The National Weather Service is predicting a high temperature of 98 degrees today for Sacramento, but in some parts of the region, temperatures will push 100 degrees.
"This might be the first day we see triple-digit heat in Northern California," said Brooke Bingaman, a meteorologist with the weather service in Sacramento.
The warm weather won't be going away anytime soon, but temperatures are expected to fall after today's peak. Sunday's high temperature is expected to reach 93 degrees. A slight cooling will occur by Tuesday, with temperatures dipping into the 80s.
The dry conditions, coupled with high winds, are putting the area in a "critical fire pattern," Bingaman said. Gusts will reach 30 mph in some areas of the Sacramento region today.
