It's not summer yet, but the expected high of 96 degrees in Sacramento today makes for a hot start to the first week in June.
By noon, temperatures had already reached 87 degrees at the Sacramento Executive Airport, with west northwest winds at 8 mph.
According to the National Weather Service, the return of the marine layer along the coast means that a Delta breeze will start cooling off the Sacramento valley for the rest of the week, but only by a few degrees. Winds up to 9 mph are expected through Tuesday.
Monday should see a slight dip in the daytime high to 92 degrees, and Tuesday looks to be the coolest day of the week, with the top mercury reading reaching 87 degrees.
But the heat returns on Wednesday, with the high near 90, and will climb by a few degrees each day to the weekend. Thursday will be near 94 degrees, and Friday is expected to just miss the 100 degree.
Evenings this week should cool off into the high 50's, although night time temperatures will be in the mid-60's starting Wednesday.
